On April 1, China Building Materials Federation President Yan Xiaofeng met with a delegation led by C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group Executive Director Mark Watts. The two sides conducted extensive exchanges on topics including the progress of green and low-carbon transformation in China’s building materials industry, the role of urban development in promoting the green development of the building materials industry, and the deepening of international cooperation. Liu Jianhua, Vice President of the Federation, Wang Mingming, China Programme Development Director of C40, and others attended the meeting.
Yan Xiaofeng welcomed Mark Watts and his delegation and expressed gratitude for C40’s long-standing support for the green and low-carbon development of China’s building materials industry. He pointed out that, under the guidance of the “dual carbon” goals, China’s building materials industry has accelerated its green and low-carbon transformation and made positive progress in areas such as energy conservation and carbon reduction, comprehensive resource utilization, low-carbon technology research and development, and the construction of “Six-Zero Factories.” As a major carrier of demand for building materials, cities play a key role in promoting the application of green building materials and guiding market transformation. The China Building Materials Federation is willing to further strengthen cooperation with C40 and deepen collaboration in areas such as policy research, green procurement, promotion of low-carbon products, and urban pilot and demonstration projects, so as to jointly explore effective pathways for green and low-carbon development.
Mark Watts highly commended the achievements made by China’s building materials industry in green and low-carbon development and expressed appreciation for the important role played by the China Building Materials Federation in building communication platforms between industry and government and promoting international exchanges and cooperation. He noted that C40 attaches great importance to its cooperation with the Federation and hopes to build on existing cooperation projects to further advance clean construction and green transformation at the city level in China, form replicable and scalable best practices, and continuously achieve new progress in the green and low-carbon transformation of both the building materials industry and urban development, thereby making positive contributions to the realization of the “dual carbon” goals.
The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, established in 2005 and headquartered in London, is an international non-profit organization dedicated to addressing climate change, connecting nearly 100 of the world’s megacities. C40 is committed to supporting cities worldwide in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, mitigating climate risks, improving the health and well-being of urban residents, and increasing economic opportunities. In China, 13 cities—including Beijing, Shanghai, and Qingdao—have joined the C40 network and are working together with global cities to address climate change.
Also attending the meeting were Liu Xiaoyu, Clean Construction Programme Manager of C40 China; Yao Xinyi, South-South Cooperation Officer; Shen Yulu, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the China Building Materials Federation; and Zhang Hanwen, Assistant Director.
