Building Materials Federation (CBMF) hosted a symposium in Beijing for award-winning representatives in the building materials sector who attended the National Science and Technology

The China Building Materials Federation (CBMF) hosted a symposium in Beijing for award-winning representatives in the building materials sector who attended the National Science and Technology Awards Conference. Wu Qingtao, Party Secretary and President of CBMF, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Liu Jianhua, Member of the Standing Executive Committee and Resident Vice President of CBMF, presided over the meeting.

The 2025 National Science and Technology Awards selected a total of 258 projects and 11 science and technology experts. Among them, three projects and one international expert from the building materials field were honored:

  • Second Prize, National Science and Technology Progress Award: The Next-Generation Topological Polymer Functional Materials project led by Prof. Ran Qianping of Southeast University.

  • Second Prize, National Science and Technology Progress Award: The Key Preparation Technologies and Applications for Quartz Optical Fiber Core Materials project led by Wang Ruichun, Vice President of YOFC.

  • Second Prize, National Natural Science Award: The Fluorination Tuning Mechanism and Design of Vacuum Ultraviolet Nonlinear Optical Crystals project led by Pan Shilie, Director of the Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physics & Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

  • International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the PRC: Prof. Su Baolian of Wuhan University of Technology, an academician of the Royal Academy of Belgium.

Wu Qingtao extended his warm congratulations to the award winners. He pointed out that winning China's highest honors in science and technology highlights the industry's success in driving high-level technological self-reliance, aligning with national strategic deployments, and showcasing the dedication of building materials scientists and engineers.

Wu emphasized that researchers in the building materials sector should keep the country's vision in mind and focus their research efforts on major national and industrial needs. He highlighted several key directives:

  • Foster innovation vitality through openness, competition, and collaboration.

  • Embrace artificial intelligence to empower the entire workflow, including R&D, manufacturing, and design services.

  • Practice the industry goal of "Building a Better World with Fine Materials," bridging technological innovation with industrial applications to serve human needs.

  • Strengthen the innovation ecosystem, with the Federation committed to providing platforms, optimizing services, promoting advanced technologies, and fostering a collaborative environment.

In recent years, the CBMF has taken multiple measures to integrate technological and industrial innovation. It continues to conduct "open competition" initiatives for major technological breakthroughs, directing industry resources toward green and low-carbon goals, inorganic non-metallic "super materials," and "AI + Building Materials" applications. By maintaining strict, high-standard evaluation guidelines for its own Industry Science and Technology Awards, CBMF has built a strong foundation for maintaining a high success rate in national science and technology award nominations.

Representatives from Jiangsu Sobute New Materials, YOFC, Zhejiang University, Southeast University, Tongji University, Wuhan University of Technology, Huai'an University, and the Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physics & Chemistry (CAS) attended the meeting. Attendees shared their reflections on the awards conference and spoke highly of the CBMF's contributions to driving innovation. They noted that the vast scope of the building materials sector—spanning basic materials, inorganic non-metallic new materials, and non-metallic minerals—provides a broad stage for researchers to work together and elevate the industry's technological capabilities to new heights.
